How incredible would it be if you would work on a project with one of your closest friends? How incredible would it be if that friend were your brother? How cooler still if the project was a book based on your own adventures growing up? That's the case with the guests on the latest episode of The DTALKS Podcast. Jarrett & Jerome Pumphrey have been working on books for years and only recently were able to show the world what a dynamic duo they are. They're publishing the books they wish they had growing up and telling the stories they want to tell. Our conversation on the podcast covered their backgrounds in writing & illustrating, the decision to make their latest book a "part comic/part written word" book, and what's next. Enjoy!

What might the Biblical story of Jacob's relationship with Esau look like if we examined it through the lens of generational trauma dating all the way back to Isaac on the altar? Or how might the story of Joseph resonate if we thought about it in context to Jacob's relationship with his mom? These are but a few of the stories Shannon T.L. Kearns examines in his book: "In the Margins: A Transgender Man's Journey with Scripture." In this book Shannon takes the reader through his life story to this point and compares key moments with classic bible stories you may be familiar with. Listeners, this episode was a treat for me. Having double majored in both Theology and Theatre I was thrilled to read these classic stories with a fresh perspective and I know you'll be eager to hear Shannon's perspectives! Enjoy!

Frank Campagna has been a professional artist in the Dallas area since 1979. Campagna began his career in the music and nightclub industries, providing artwork for legendary, live music venues such as the Agora Ballroom, Starplex, Bronco Bowl, Verizon Theater, Gypsy Tea Room, and currently for House of Blues. He has also created on-demand works for acts such as the Rolling Stones, Guns & Roses, the Eagles, U-2, and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame, as well as festivals such as Lollapolooza, SXSW, and Edgefest, for which he gained national exposure on MTV in the early 1990s. Campagna has been instrumental in the revitalization of the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood from an abandoned warehouse district to it's present day reputation as a mecca of art and music, beginning with hosting musical acts in his visual art studio in 1982. In 1993, 1994, 1999, and 2000, he led over 150 artists in the Good Latimer tunnel mural project. In the early 2000s, Campagna played a key role in negotiating the replacement of the Good Latimer tunnel on behalf of the neighborhood with Dallas Area Rapid Transit to create a 'new gateway' to Deep Ellum, resulting in the Traveling Man project. In 2005, Campagna founded Kettle Art Gallery, offering North Texas creatives a venue that is 'inclusive as opposed to exclusive' which continually mentors and introduces 'new blood' into our city's culture. In addition to the gallery, Campagna currently serves as an advisor to Foundation45, a project he initiated in 2011 to provide mental health services to creatives, and in 2017 and 2018 as a muralist in the ‘Dallas in Prizzi’ project in Sicily.

Ron Hall’s life was centered around a successful career as an international art dealer and a passion for his Rocky Top ranch on the Brazos River. All this changed in 1998 as a result on an encounter with a homeless man, Denver Moore, who was threatening to kill everyone in the Fort Worth, Texas homeless shelter where Ron and his wife Deborah had begun to volunteer two weeks earlier. After the death of his wife in November, 2000, Denver Moore moved in with Ron and lived with him for the next ten years. This life changing encounter, featured on many television and radio shows inspired Ron to write his first book SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME, a story of hope and redemption. The word of mouth hit became a New York Times platinum bestseller and stayed on the list for more than three and a half years. In 2007, President Bush appointed Ron to the State Department Cultural Property Committee to advise the President on diplomatic matters regarding international art and antiquities. He served through December 2011. Currently, Ron is a screenwriter and producer of the movie version of his book SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME. It opened in theaters across America by Paramount Pictures October 20, 2017. He recently published SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME, Children's version and WORKING OUR WAY HOME, the story of the ten years he and Denver lived together. He is currently writing the sequel for the movie. Ron and his wife Beth, reside in Dallas where they direct the Same Kind of Different as MeFoundation, SKODAM.org, established to raise money and awareness for the homeless.

Dr. Glidden has been an outspoken advocate of Naturopathic Medicine for over 3 decades. His training, license, and clinical experience afford him a unique perspective on "All-Things-Medical." He uses this perspective to dissect the facts from the fictions, the truth from the propaganda, and the myths from the realities of medical concepts and treatments. A breath of fresh air in a stagnant swamp of monopolized medical mediocrity, Dr. Glidden's message rings true - carrying promise and insight to any and all who are open-minded enough to hear it. When he was sick with GI issues and fatigue and no MD could help him, it was a homeopathic remedy that cured him and led him to enroll in a naturopathic doctor of medicine degree program. In this episode, Dr. Glidden explains how allopathic medicine is good for trauma and surgery but is inconsistent with natural law. Allopathic medicine is disease management. It's the leading cause of bankruptcy and the leading cause of death. He tells us how there was a hostile takeover of the medical system in 1912 and how we desperately need a free medical market. There are many "alternatives" that work to allow the body to heal. To learn more about Dr. Glidden, please go to https://riseupintohealth.com/.

Grace’s dad, Scott Schara, is working tirelessly to bring his daughter’s story to all corners of this country, and even across the world to Australia, to help prevent anyone else from going through the pain of losing a loved one at the hands of medical personnel. More importantly, he hopes Grace’s story will stir people’s hearts to turn to the Lord – the only one who will protect them into eternity. Grace, a 19-year-old girl with Down syndrome was killed by the actions of unethical medical personnel. Scott had to watch Grace die on FaceTime because he was prevented from being with her in the hospital, and no doctor or nurse would help save her life because of an illegal Do Not Resuscitate order placed on Grace without family consent. The good news is Grace’s work here on earth isn’t done. It’s only beginning. The love she demonstrated to everyone when she was with us continues to live on through Scott and his family. Scott is the president of Our Amazing Grace’s Light Shines On, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) established to provide grants to individuals – including their family – and organizations who will shine God’s light as Grace did. His next step is to join Vera Sharav, a Holocaust survivor, to speak out and compare what is happening in the hospitals to the Holocaust. When Vera Sharav looks back on the repressive measures that eventually led to the atrocities of the Holocaust that she survived, she’s reminded of the fear, propaganda and censorship utilized by the National Socialist (Nazi) regime to begin the long march that ended in the death camps. She senses similar government directives and the complicity of the medical establishment in carrying out medical murder reflects the German policies of the 1930’s. https://ouramazinggrace.net/
